Job Description

• Coordinate with forensic science colleagues to organize meetings and assist in information seeking activities.
• Rear fly colonies.
• Conduct biological assays associated with eBeam, X-ray, and gamma radiation treated blow flies.
• Assist in basic lab management and insect care, as necessary.
• Other duties as required.
Required Education And Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Entomology, Zoology, Biology, or equivalent.
• Two years of related professional experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
• Familiarity with appropriate laboratory and/or technical equipment.
• Ability to effectively utilize a computer and applicable software to create databases, perform statistical analyses, present data, and perform other computer-related tasks.
• Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
Preferred Knowledge,

Skills And Abilities
• Familiarity with forensic science.
• Ability to raise flies in the lab.
• Experience with life history trait analyses.
• Experience with experimental design and statistical analysis with biological systems.
• Ability to work with scientific teams.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with research colleagues in the Department of Entomology on a project evaluating alternative radiation sources for the implementation of Sterile Insect Technique to control screwworm flies
  • Coordinate activities with Dr
  • Suresh Pillai at the National Center for Electron Beam Research at Texas A&M University and other colleagues at Texas A&M University and the USDA
  • Coordinate with forensic science colleagues to organize meetings and assist in information seeking activities
  • Rear fly colonies
  • Conduct biological assays associated with eBeam, X-ray, and gamma radiation treated blow flies
  • Assist in basic lab management and insect care, as necessary
