Position Overview

The University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy invites applications for a 12-month, non-tenure track faculty position at the rank of Clinical Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor in the Department of Pharmacy Practice. The position is based in Jackson, Mississippi, at the University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy campus at the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) and is part of a collaborative Internal Medicine Pharmacy Initiative between UMMC and UMSOP.

The position will be part of a shared faculty model to provide hospitalist team coverage designed to target collaboration among inpatient and ambulatory care providers aimed at improving inpatient Length of Stay (LOS) and Transitions of Care (TOC) for hospitalized patients through the integration of pharmacy services into a hospitalist team. The successful candidate will be a part of a collaborative hospitalist pharmacy team consisting of two UMSOP faculty members embedded into the interdisciplinary hospitalist service at UMMC, with a focus on optimizing patient outcomes, generating cost savings, and contributing to scholarly research.

Job Responsibilities:

Academic Responsibilities
• Deliver didactic and experiential education in the PharmD curriculum.
• Develop and assess teaching materials, including participation in skills laboratories.
• Precept pharmacy students (IPPE and APPE) and mentor residents and fellows.
• Contribute to scholarly activities, including clinical research and publication in peer-reviewed journals.
• Mentor students in research and scholarship.

Clinical Responsibilities
• Maintain an active Hospitalist Team Service at UMMC.
• Participate in daily rounds with the hospitalist team.
• Focus on reducing LOS and improving TOC for high-risk patient populations (e.g., heart failure, pneumonia, diabetes with complications).
• Collaborate with UMMC personnel to identify and target disease states for intervention.
• Contribute to annual reporting of clinical and research outcomes to UMMC and UMSOP.

Service Responsibilities
• Engage in service to the department, school, university, and professional organizations.
• Participate in committee work and leadership opportunities as appropriate.

Qualifications
• Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from an ACPE-accredited institution.
• Completion of a PGY1 residency required; PGY2 in internal medicine or related specialty preferred.
• Eligibility for licensure as a pharmacist in the State of Mississippi.
• Demonstrated record of excellence or clear potential for excellence in pharmacy practice, teaching, and scholarship.
• Board certification (e.g., BCPS) preferred.
• Academic rank will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
