Responsibilities

• •The Medical Assistant is responsible for a variety of patient care, technical, and clerical related functions under the direct supervision of the physician and practice manager
• •Is responsible for the clinic patient flow by assisting members of the patient care team and providing a wide range of health care services while supporting quality and safe care
• •May float to other practices as needed to support operational needs
• •May be asked to float to other practices within the region providing support as needed
• •Maintains excellent clinical competency by adhering to the standard clinical expectations for Riverside Medical Group
• •This includes updating, verifying, and maintaining patient records by properly interviewing the patient and confirming purpose of visit
• •Prepares patient for examination by obtaining vital signs proficiently (including manual vital signs when mechanical devices are not available)
• •Prepare and sanitize exam rooms before and after patient appointments
• •Administer medications and vaccines under the supervision of a physician
• •Assists with processing prescription refill requests for approval and forwarding to pharmacies
• •Maintains medical inventory of supplies and keeps exam rooms stocked appropriately
• •Keeps any necessary equipment in operating order and facilitating preventive maintenance when needed
• •Ensures compliance with healthcare regulations with scope of practice, HIPAA, and OSHA standards
• •Completes all required competencies and education to maintain skill level to provide safe patient care
• •Acts as a liaison between physician and patient, by providing support and comfort to patients and families during clinic visits and procedures as needed, including chaperoning during sensitive examinations
• •Demonstrates excellent customer service to include providing timely patient response and follow up by phone and electronic means
• •Manages patient expectations with clear explanations (i.e., informing patients about delays as appropriate) and effectively manages the providers' patient schedules
• •Assists patients with providing access to care with appointments, referrals, and providing necessary information
• •Assists with patient education per protocol and direct provider instruction to include directions in the after-visit summary within the electronic medical record
• •Exhibits knowledge of lab procedures to include specimen collection, phlebotomy, point of care testing, and use of ABN’s (if applicable in hired practice)
• •Properly processes, packages, and sends specimens to correct laboratory
• •Obtains preauthorization when needed
• •Proficient in managing point of care logs and documenting point of care testing accurately in the electronic health record
• •Follows insurance carrier guidelines and Medicare regulations
• •Maintains a working knowledge of ICD9 and CPT coding and seeks assistance as needed
• •Obtains prior authorizations when needed
• •Schedules tests and specialist visits within network limitations
• •Supports productivity goals to maximize use of facility resources to meet patient demand
• •Maximizes physician visits so that productivity targets are met
• •Assists and contributes to meet quality measures for the organization
