Responsibilities
• Assumes responsibility and accountability for providing comprehensive evaluation and treatment of performance components affecting cognition, swallowing, speech, language, reading and overall function.
• To provide goal-oriented treatment to facilitate maximum level of independence to clients suffering from disability, disease or injury.
• The speech language pathologist organizes, conducts, and elevates medically prescribed speech therapy programs to restore function and prevent disability following disease, injury or loss of a body part; helps patient’s reach his/her maximum performance and assume a place in society while learning to live within his/her capabilities.
• Directs and supervises interns, externs, and clinical fellows.
• Recognizes the signs and symptoms of stroke and calling a stroke alert overhead.
• Verbalizes stroke alert process.
• Consults and assessments/reassessments will be performed and documented within 24 hours of admission or when feasible once patient is medically stable.
• Maintains currency in stroke knowledge by completing the annual 4 hours online training.
Requirements
• Graduate of accredited Graduate School of Speech & Language having earned a Masters of Art or Science Degree in Speech and Language with Certificate of Clinical Competency.
• Must be licensed in the state of Florida.
• Must have BLS certification through AHA.
