Qualifications

  • Ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time in extreme temperatures
  • Ability to work extended days or flexible hours including evenings and weekends
  • Ability to push, pull, lift, drag, or carry up to 50 pounds of supplies or equipment
  • Make swift and effective rescues; strong swimming skills (example - tread 2 minutes with 10 lb weight, swim 25 yards in 18 seconds or less
  • Congenial personality, leadership skills
  • Ability to remain alert, cope with large crowds and varied situations
  • Must set positive leadership role, display sound judgment, and ability to be flexible
  • Able to make on the spot, quick decisions to insure safety of all users of the pool areas
  • Current Lifeguard and First Aid Certification through American Red Cross
  • Current CPR for the Professional Rescuer Certification
  • Must pass criminal background check if 18 years old or older

Responsibilities

  • Under the supervision of the Aquatics Manager and Head Guard, the Lifeguard provides excellent customer service to guests of the Aquatic Park
  • The Lifeguard remains alert and supervises large groups, including children, both visually and audibly to insure safety, facility rules, incident prevention, and health standards
  • Effects rescues and emergency care when necessary
  • Performs daily monitoring of facility equipment.• Provides excellent customer service by responding promptly to guest requests and needs
  • Able to constantly maintain alert scanning of assigned guarding zone
  • Able to recognize and respond effectively in emergencies
  • Enforce all aquatic facility policies, rules and regulations
  • Inspect the facility on a daily schedule and report any unsafe conditions or equipment to the supervisor
  • Participate fully in training exercises (to include 1,500 yards of swimming weekly and demonstrations of CPR, spinal immobilization and water rescues)
  • Maintenance duties such as (but not limited to) trash collection, floor and toilet sanitation, skimming pool surface; and scrubbing tile
  • Maintain positive public image and leadership role
  • Administer emergency care when needed
  • Maintain accurate reports and records
  • Complete additional duties as assigned by supervisor
  • Communicate effectively and courteously with guests and other staff verbally, in writing, & by phone
  • Ability to cope with large crowds and noise levels
  • May be required to perform other department duties as assigned
