Responsibilities:
The Assistant Dean of Research is responsible for leadership in Research and Scholarship, including teaching in an innovative medical education program with vertical and horizontal integration. You will be joining a team of highly committed faculty responsible for the development, design, and implementation of all components of the medical education program. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
· Serves as a member of the Dean’s Executive Committee and the College Research Committee
·Serves as the College of Medicine’s research leader
·Presents the College’s research capabilities to potential donors and other interested parties
·Assists the Dean and the College in securing extramural and industry related grants and with strategic planning and development of research initiatives
·Prepares the research budget request and administers the allocated research budget
·Oversees College research laboratories including animal research facility and collaborates with other university researchers
·Supports research &/or healthcare databases for research applications, including active subscriptions for scientific journals
·Promotes research and scholarship within the College
·Promotes research links and engagement within the College and across the University to grow research output and interdisciplinary research
·Schedule and plan research events including Research Day
·Work with Dean and Accreditation team in all aspects of functions and activities including, but not limited to gathering & presenting data relevant to demonstration of compliance with accreditation standards
·Collate student and faculty research activities, publications, grants, and other research activities relevant to demonstrate student & faculty research of the accreditation standards
· Initiates and nurtures collaborations with external organizations to expand capabilities and resources
·Develops strategies to increase extramural and intramural research funding and collaborates with the Northern California Research Foundation
·Oversees intramural and seed grant funding process
·Provide continuous training programs for students and faculty on scientific communication, research protocol and grant writing
·Support the development and implementation of curriculum topics for an integrated medical program
·Directly facilitate, guide and support student scholarship, including, but not limited to research activities
·Provide support to student research projects for SDSSP course
·Teach and mentor medical students
·Support student remediation planning and activities
·Design/deliver outstanding student experience, attending to all curriculum matters, as well as maintaining a learning environment that promotes mutual respect and professional behavior on the part of faculty, staff and students
·Provide course schedules, syllabi, and information for educational database, and submit student assessment/grades in a timely manner
·Participate in scholarly activities and/or research
·Participate in faculty development programs
·Serve on departmental and institutional committees
·Other duties as assigned.

·Commitment to professional excellence
·Proven effectiveness and experience maintaining a research program, scholarship, and extramural research funding (preferred) in a medical / bio-medical related field
