Job Description
with teachers and school staff, and under the supervision of a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), the employee supports classroom activities, implements trauma-informed and Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)-based interventions, promotes student independence, and ensures student safety. This position plays a key role in supporting both instructional goals and behavioral programs.
Key Responsibilities
Student Safety & Care
• Ensure the safety and well-being of students at all times.
• Use crisis-prevention and de-escalation skills in accordance with training and agency policy.
• Support students during meals, breaks, transportation, and community-based activities, if required.
• Follow all health, safety, and confidentiality standards.
Instructional Support
• Support classroom instruction by reinforcing lessons, assisting with assignments, and facilitating participation in group activities.
• Modify or adapt instructional materials as directed by the teacher or specialist.
• Provide individualized assistance to students with academic work, communication goals, and social skills practice as outlined in the student’s Individualized Education Plan (IEP).
• Monitor student engagement, support transitions, and assist with classroom routines.
• Help maintain a positive, structured learning environment aligned with teacher and school expectations.
• Assist students with organization, task completion, and following classroom rules.
ABA & Behavioral Support
• Implement ABA treatment plans and behavior intervention strategies as directed by the supervising BCBA.
• Provide 1:1 behavioral support to students during academic, social, and recreational activities.
• Collect accurate data on target behaviors, skill acquisition, and intervention outcomes.
• Support the implementation of Positive Behavior Intervention Plans (PBIPs), safety plans, and reinforcement systems.
• Promptly report any changes in student behavior, safety concerns, or incidents to the BCBA and appropriate school personnel.
• Assist in preparing materials and organizing activities that support behavioral and instructional goals.
Qualifications & Requirements
• Reliable, punctual, and able to work flexible hours as required by program needs.
• Respectful and professional work ethic with students, colleagues, and supervisors.
• Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and safely manage challenging behaviors when needed.
• Ability to implement students’ individualized plans (educational, behavioral, safety, and other support) accurately and follow structured protocols.
• Commitment to professional ethics, client confidentiality, and adherence to BACB standards.
• Basic computer skills to collect data reliably and maintain required documentation.
• High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor's degree preferred.
• Experience working with individuals with autism, behavioral needs, or developmental disabilities strongly preferred.
• Certification or eligibility for Certified Behavior Technician (CBT) required, or ability to obtain within 90 days of employment.
• Must have valid First Aid/CPR, food handler’s permit, and crisis intervention certification, or ability to obtain within 90 days of employment
• Must pass state, national and federal background checks.
