About the Department/College

The College of Health and Human Services invites applications for an Assistant Teaching Professor in the Doctor of Medical Sciences (DMSc) program in the Department of Physician Assistant Studies, College of Health and Human Services at Northern Arizona University-Phoenix. This is a full-time (12-month) position beginning August 1, 2025.
About the Position

Faculty will work with the Program Director and DMSc faculty and staff to deliver an online, asynchronous program with the mission to provide Physician Assistants (PA) with knowledge and competencies to contribute to an equitable, patient-centered, and cost-effective health care system.

Faculty will serve as the lead instructor for online, asynchronous coursework, advise students on capstone experiences, develop scholarly and research projects, and provide service to the institution and professional community. All faculty engage in work to assess and enhance the student experience, including recruitment, admissions, mentoring and advising, and program evaluation. The Northern Arizona University Doctor of Medical Science Program seeks to equip PAs with the expertise, abilities, and qualifications needed to act as agents of change, driving the evolution of US healthcare towards a safer, more equitable, and higher-value system.
Responsibilities Include
• Provide instruction in the DMSc program on content in health systems science (health care finance and delivery, population health, health equity, social determinants of health, health informatics, change management, other).
• Develop research and scholarly works in area(s) of interest.
• Serve the institution and profession. Opportunities for service include:
• Serve on program, department, college and university committees
• Clinical practice
• Serve in professional organizations, state boards, etc.

This position is a remote position which allows the incumbent to complete their work at a location other than an NAU site, campus, or facility with or without accommodation. The incumbent may occasionally work in a shared site, but primarily will work elsewhere.

This is a full-time (12-month) position beginning August 1, 2025, based in Phoenix, Arizona out of the Phoenix Bioscience Core campus.
Minimum Qualifications
• Successful completion of a master's degree in a relevant field by date of appointment.
• Minimum of 2 years teaching experience in higher education.
• Experience in the field of health systems science (health policy, social determinants of health, population health, health informatics, health care finance and delivery systems, etc.) via clinical practice, research, teaching, or professional education.
• Experience teaching in a fully online environment.
Preferred Qualifications
• Successful completion of doctoral degree in any field.
• Experience teaching in online doctoral degree program.
• Professional experience in health informatics, health policy development.
• Knowledge of the current landscape in PA and health care, medical education, the clinical environment, and emerging trends.
• Knowledge of the current landscape in health care (legislative changes, value-based care, quality and safety, finance and delivery).
• Experience using Canvas learning management system.
Compensation & Benefits

Commensurate with candidate\'s qualifications and related experience.

This is a Faculty (FAC) position. NAU offers an excellent benefit package including generous health, dental and vision insurance; participation in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS) or the Optional Retirement Program (ORP); sick leave accruals and 10 holidays per year; and tuition reduction for employees and qualified family members. Employees offered a position will be eligible for state health plans (including NAU\'s BCBS Plan). Employees will have 31 days from date of hire to enroll in benefits, and their benefits will then be effective the first day of the pay period following their completed enrollment. If a new employee chooses the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS) retirement option, participation in the ASRS Plan (and the long-term disability coverage that accompanies it) will begin on the first of the pay period following 183 days of employment. New employees who choose to participate in the Optional Retirement Plan (ORP; an alternative to the ASRS plan) will begin to participate on the first day of the pay period following election. Northern Arizona University requires satisfactory results for the following: a criminal background investigation, an employment history verification and a degree verification (in some cases) prior to employment.
