The Bay Area's behavioral health sector registered 229 providers in the latest CMS weekly update, accounting for 3% of the national total. This significant concentration highlights the region as a major hub for behavioral health services. The provider landscape consists of 205 individual practitioners and 24 organizations, showing a robust mix of solo clinicians and larger group practices.

ABA Workforce Composition

Among individual practitioners, the data reveals a strong focus on Applied Behavior Analysis, with 109 RBTs and 21 BCBAs. These counts are not mutually exclusive, as one provider holds dual BCBA and RBT credentials, a common indicator of career progression from technician to supervisor. The ratio of more than five RBTs for every one BCBA suggests a high demand for direct-care staff and may place significant supervisory demands on the region's board-certified analysts.

Regional Demographics and Distribution

The Bay Area's individual provider workforce is predominantly female, with 151 women comprising 74% of the total, alongside 43 men and 11 nonbinary individuals. Geographically, provider activity is most concentrated in Concord, with 36 providers, followed by San Francisco and San Jose. Among organizations, Mission Area Health Associates appeared three times in this week's update. This data points to a rapidly expanding direct-care workforce, which could increase both access to ABA services and the need for qualified clinical supervisors across the region.
