That concentration positions the region as a major behavioral health workforce hub, although NPI registrations measure provider activity rather than service capacity or patient access.

ABA Credential Mix

The registry reports 12 BCBA providers and 102 RBT providers, plus 3 dual-credentialed providers holding both BCBA and RBT credentials. These categories overlap, so they should not be treated as mutually exclusive totals. The resulting credential mix is heavily weighted toward direct-care technicians, with relatively few BCBAs available for assessment, treatment planning and RBT supervision. That imbalance may constrain caseload growth even as the RBT workforce expands.

Another 66 providers reported multiple taxonomies, indicating that the registry includes practitioners with broader behavioral health or allied-health roles alongside ABA credentials. Taxonomy counts also overlap and do not represent separate workforce segments.

Workforce Demographics

The workforce was 72% female, compared with 21% male and 7% nonbinary. No organization appeared multiple times as a notable recurring employer in this update. The largest city concentrations were Concord, with 44 providers, San Francisco with 41 providers, San Jose with 32 providers, Oakland with 27 providers and Santa Rosa with 14 providers. The pattern suggests broad regional activity, but limited BCBA capacity could remain a barrier to expanding ABA access.
