Job Description

Reporting to the Deputy Director of OIEA, the Assistant Director utilizes professional experience and training to manage complex investigations into allegations of violations of University policies prohibiting discrimination and harassment based on protected classes and supports campus stakeholders in the creation of equitable and accessible learning and working environments.
Required Skills and Abilities
1. Demonstrated capacity to work in a diverse community, cultural competence, emotional intelligence, and a strong team orientation. Proven counseling, mediation, investigatory, and conflict resolution skills.
2. Demonstrated ability to handle complex situations, particularly those with a high level of confidentiality and the ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects and deadlines.
3. Strong oral and written communication skills and excellent attention to detail. Proficient computer skills including Excel, Word and PowerPoint and use of electronic databases.
4. Strong critical thinking, analytical, planning and organizational skills and the ability to understand and explain complex policies. Ability to interpret federal, state, and local non-discrimination laws and regulations.
Preferred Skills and Abilities
Juris Doctorate or master's degree in human resources, higher education, or related field strongly preferred. Experience leading protected class-based discrimination and harassment investigations, with preference for academic environment investigations. Extensive knowledge of protections against discrimination and harassment.
Principal Responsibilities
1.Receives and independently investigates inquiries and complaints of unlawful discrimination, harassment, and unfair treatment from applicants, students and employees.
2. Acts as a mediator in the attempt to resolve alleged violations of Federal and State laws as well as allegations of other unfair treatment.
3. Assists supervisors in identifying, resolving, and preventing equal employment opportunity problems; promotes a favorable climate for an effective equal employment opportunity program.
4. Interprets equal employment opportunity requirements of Federal and State agencies; evaluates these requirements in relation to specific departments and/or programs; works with Human Resource Generalists, Departmental supervisors, Labor Management Relations to determine corrective or remedial action as needed.
5. Independently provide coordination, oversight and implementation of the Employment Accommodation Program for faculty.
6. Works collaboratively with faculty, staff, supervisors, Labor Management Relations, and Labor unions in resolving issues.
7. Develops, designs, and delivers seminars in the areas of: Discrimination and Harassment, Respectful Environments, disability accommodation, etc.
8. Work collaboratively with the Director and, as appropriate, take a lead and/or supervisory role on special projects and events.
9. Leads research of EO and related topics, as requested
10. Maintain thorough and up-to-date knowledge of non-discrimination laws and regulations and relevant University policies.
11. Represent the Office to constituencies on and off campus.
12. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director.
Required Education and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in a related field and five years of experience in the human resources field at the professional level; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
