  • (or equivalent) from an approved LCME medical school

Responsibilities

  • Works under clinical supervision within the course of patient clinical care as part of their residency/fellowship training under accredited programs
  • Graduate Medical Education trainees are supervised in a manner consistent with national standards of supervision as defined by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education and/or other accrediting bodies
  • Participate in ethical, safe, high quality, competent, cost effective, and compassionate patient care, under the supervision of the faculty, commensurate with their demonstrated competence, level of advancement and responsibilities
  • Demonstrate competency in patient care, medical knowledge, and practice-based learning and improvement, interpersonal and communication skills, professionalism, and systems-based practice
  • Respect patient's rights
  • Document patient care in the medical record in a timely fashion as per training site policy
  • Develop an understanding of ethical, socioeconomic, and medical/legal issues that affect graduate medical education and the practice of medicine and learn cost containment measures in the provision of patient care
  • Participate fully in the educational and scholarly activities of the program and as required, assume responsibility for teaching and supervising other residents and students
  • Develop skills to be effective life-long learners including developing a personal program of self-study and professional growth with guidance from the faculty
  • Participate in institutional, departmental, and program activities involving performance improvement and patient care review
  • Recognize the need for protection of human subjects when conducting research through compliance with IRB policies, procedures, and education
  • Participate in the evaluation of faculty, didactics, program, and program director as requested
  • Adhere to the program's call schedule and schedule of assignment, and report duty hours in a timely and accurate manner
  • Participate and cooperate in and with the Graduate Medical Education office, the Graduate Medical Education Committee, and the Designated Institutional Official to enhance the medical educational experience
  • Comply with the appropriate licensure requirements of the Texas Medical Board and the laws of the State of Texas and of the United States
  • Perform all duties in accordance with the established practices, procedures and policies of the institution, its programs, clinical departments, and other institutions to which the resident/fellow is assigned
