Position Summary The Department of Surgery at the University of North Carolina is seeking applications for a full-time surgical oncologist to join our Division of Surgical Oncology. This position is being recruited as an open-rank, open-track appointment at an FTE between 0.5 FTE and 1.0 FTE. The faculty member will be expected to perform both clinical and research duties, along with the academic responsibilities of an educational institution. We seek applicants with significant experience in open and minimally-invasive surgery for cancers of the liver, biliary tree and pancreas. Division and Mission The Division of Surgical Oncology is among the 9 clinical divisions in the Department of Surgery. The division currently includes 16 faculty members and 10 Advanced Practice Providers delivering multidisciplinary cancer care. It collaborates with the Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center on clinical, translational research and educational missions. Responsibilities Participate in multidisciplinary care and tumor boards; provide surgical support for oncology programs. Deliver high-quality clinical care within the UNC Healthcare system. Regularly participate in education of medical students, residents and fellows. Engage in research activities across a broad array of interests, including oncology clinical trials, outcomes, health services, basic science, translational, ethics, education, or global surgery research. Collaborate with colleagues inside and outside the Division to advance clinical, educational and research missions. Minimum Education and Experience MD or equivalent. Fellowship trained in surgical oncology or hepatopancreaticobiliary surgery. Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience Preference to applicants with experience caring for patients with HPB malignancies. Proficiency in robotics and minimally-invasive surgery is preferred.
