Responsibilities
• Develop programming and teaching curriculum for age appropriate programs for children with special developmental and behavioral needs.
• Provide creative non-fail, self-esteem building activities through all modalities, with emphasis in pre-readiness, self-help and behavior management.
• Develop goals and objectives for Individual Education Plans for students. Provide data for evaluations and documentation reports as required for review and update progress report cards quarterly.
• Develop lesson plans for efficient and effective teaching techniques, and substitute plans as needed. Follow behavior plans as stated in the IEP.
• Communicate with parents in a positive manner both on the phone as needed and during IEP meetings.
• Develop and implement daily class schedule cooperatively with other staff members.
• Collect data on daily and periodic basis for probe data to determine success and benchmark outcomes, share data on a periodic basis with Team Leader and Program Coordinator to determine success and accountability of teaching methods, teaching techniques and skills.
• Maintain room cleanliness, orderliness and storage of materials and equipment, keep classroom bulletin boards updated.
• Provide leadership and direction for paraprofessional staff within your classroom and other classrooms as needed.
• Contribute to annual staff evaluations as requested for paraprofessional staff under your supervision. Also, participate with administrator in annual personal evaluation.
• Adhere to policies and procedures outlined in the staff handbook, policies & procedures manual and Code of Ethics.
• Maintain required licensures and certifications.
• Attend required training classes, staffings, in-services and meetings as requested.
• Complete MAP-A, MAP and other state testing training as required. Implement testing for each student.
• Participate in fundraising activities and public relations opportunities on behalf of Rainbow Center as able and appropriate.
• Meet all deadlines set by the Program Coordinator and/or other supervisors.
• Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
• College degree
• Appropriate Missouri Certification in Special Education (SDD, EMH, BD/ED. LD, CC and/or ECSE)
• 2 to 3 years teaching experience in special education, autism or behavior preferred
• Attention to detail
• Computer skills
• Well organized
• Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
• Ability to meet deadlines
• Confidentiality
• Ability to adapt to a changing environment
• Perform a broad range of simultaneous duties
• The material and equipment required to perform the essential function of this job include routine office equipment such as: telephone, fax, computer, and copy machine.
• The ability to receive and maintain certifications in Abuse & Neglect, First Aid/CPR, Mandt and Gentle Teaching.
• Works in a school for students with developmental disabilities and behavioral challenges. Must meet the minimum physical requirements (ability to lift, push, pull 50+ lbs., sit, squat, kneel, reach and get up and down from the floor repeatedly) to complete assigned tasks.
