What does the Oncology Research Nurse (RN) do?
This position offers a unique opportunity to work as a nurse in oncology clinical research. You will provide care for patients receiving cutting-edge treatments within the oncology clinic and manage the cancer patient journey. Responsibilities
• Work closely with physicians to identify and screen potential patients for clinical trial participation.
• Present trial concepts and details to oncology patients and conduct the informed consent process.
• Assess patients for adverse events and/or changes in condition.
• Provide staff and patient education regarding the management and administration of investigational product.
• Ensure accurate and timely documentation and data entry to meet trial requirements.
• Serve as a liaison between clinic departments to ensure proper trial conduct.
• Oversee the preparation of orders by physicians to ensure protocol compliance; enter orders as needed.
• Compile and report protocol activity, accrual data, and research financials to practice administration and physicians.
• May be responsible for developing practice research budgets.
• Maintain regulatory documents in accordance with USOR SOP and applicable regulations.
• Participate in scheduling monitoring and auditing visits. Interact with monitors/auditors onsite.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have the following background and experience:
Education/Training
• Graduate from an accredited nursing education program (BSN preferred).
• Current RN licensure in the state of practice.
• Current BLS certification required.
• Minimum one (1) year of nursing experience required, preferably in oncology.
• Experience in clinical research strongly preferred.
• OCN, SoCRA or ACRP certification strongly preferred.
Experience Levels
• Level I: Bachelor’s degree in nursing; 1 year of nursing experience; oncology and/or clinical research experience preferred.
• Level II: Minimum 3 years of nursing experience; oncology experience strongly preferred.
• Level Senior: Minimum 7 years of nursing experience, including at least 1 year in oncology; previous management/leadership experience preferred.
Specialized Knowledge/Skills
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, informed consent documents, and regulatory documents.
• Ability to work independently, organize, prioritize, and follow through with results.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to implement solutions.
• Excellent communication and time management skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills to interact with multiple people at different levels.
• Attention to detail and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Working Conditions
