Position Title: Assistant Professor of Microbiology

Full Time/Part Time: Full-Time

Description:
Hofstra College of Liberal Arts and Sciences is pleased to invite applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the Department of Biology at Hofstra University. The Department of Biology welcomes applications in the area of Microbiology.

We are seeking a microbiologist with a research focus on a non-pathogenic bacterial model system, using a combination of classical microbiology and molecular tools to address topics such as microbial cell structure, microbial biochemistry, microbial genetic mechanisms, or microbial physiology.

The successful candidate is expected to:
• Teach lecture and lab courses in microbiology, introductory molecular/cell biology and upper-level courses that complement current course offerings.
• Establish and maintain an externally-funded research program that complements the needs of our department and is accessible to both undergraduate and Master's research students.

Qualifications:
• Ph.D. in microbiology, biology or closely related discipline
• Postdoctoral research experience in microbiology and a well-developed research plan
• Experience teaching undergraduate biology courses as instructor of record
• Demonstrated commitment to undergraduate education

Preferred Qualifications:
• Teaching experience in the field of microbiology
• Experience teaching lecture and laboratory introductory biology courses as instructor of record
• Experience applying active-learning or student-centered pedagogy
• Demonstrated expertise in combining classical bacteriology and bioinformatics in microbiological research
• Experience collaborating in a coordinated teaching environment for multi-section courses
