Job Description

The work hours are generally Monday through Friday from 8:30AM to 5:00PM. Additional hours may be required (exact hours should be modified as appropriate). Lunch/breaks are dictated by workflow.

Regular attendance is required to perform the functions of this position. Incumbent will maintain a customer-oriented awareness in acknowledging and responding to needs as they occur to assure that customer satisfaction is met at all times.

Essential Functions:

30% Management of IRB
• Responsible for independently planning, executing and analyzing IRB protocols for approval, under the supervision of the Principle Investigator.
• Compiles regulatory documents for IRB and sponsor; review and communicate protocol needs with physician and ancillary staff. Because of complexity of the protocols used, the incumbent must also review research literature and techniques to provide recommendations for Principle Investigators, postdoctoral fellows and graduate students in their experiments.

25% Data Processing
• Prepares Images for analysis, Performs data entry and organization, and analyzes a wide array of research data.

20% Coordination of Manuscripts and Grants
• Works directly with faculty, residents, and research fellows to facilitate submission of posters and manuscripts.
• Conduct literature searches using Pub Med via the LSUHSC library, the physical library, archives, and other sources of information to collect relevant materials pertaining to scientific publications and presentations.
• Assists in the preparation and submission of original grant applications for research as it relates to the development, review and writing and editing of grant proposals, as well as being a liaison between the department and OSPTT.

20% Lab Management
• Assists residents and faculty in hypothesis-driven research experiments. Provides technical support as needed.
• Demonstrates in depth knowledge of the policies and procedures for lab safety.
• Orders supplies needed for the lab.

5% Marginal Functions
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

The applicant must meet the following:
• Bachelor's Degree in a science-related field

Preferred Qualifications

Education:

Master's degree in a related scientific field.

Work Experience:

At least one year of experience working in a laboratory.

Research

Experience:

Animal behavioral trials, brain histology, PCR, genotyping, Statistical data analysis, poster preparation, Manuscript preparation
