Qualifications

  • The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree and at least five years of registered nursing experience, including a minimum of three years specializing in chemo/biotherapy infusion; preferably in an outpatient setting, and one year of clinical research experience
  • Required: Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing
  • Required: Five years of registered nursing experience
  • Licenses and Certifications
  • Required: Current State of Texas Professional Nursing license (RN), Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification
  • Board certified (RN-BC) in professional development by the American Credentialing Center or OCN Oncology Nurse Certification

Responsibilities

  • Shift: Monday - Friday 9:00 am - 5:30 pm with occasional alternative schedule based on unit operations/educational initiatives

  • The primary purpose of the CTRC Clinical Development Specialist position is to serve as a clinical expert in outpatient oncology clinical trials research/infusion nursing to improve the quality of patient care
  • Through the use of evidence-based practices, and collaboration with management ensures a standard level of nursing care is provided in the patient care areas in the CTRC
  • The CTRC Clinical Development Specialist is a clinical expert in outpatient oncology clinical trials research/ infusion that teaches nurses the application of nursing process at the point of care and:
  • Serves as an expert in outpatient oncology clinical trials research/infusion nursing from complex patient care needs
  • Assess competency and provides coaching and mentoring for the CTRC nursing staff designed to develop clinical knowledge and skills
  • Collaborates with area management and the nursing education department to design tools and methodologies to improve skills of clinical staff
  • Provides educational opportunities to the nursing staff which fosters professional growth, strengthens problem solving and critical thinking skills in collaboration with nursing education department
  • Incorporates clinical trials research, infusion, oncology nursing standards, institutional CTRC policy and procedures into practice
  • Identifies annual competencies and facilitates validation in collaboration with nursing education department and area management
  • Participates in area-based initiatives directed at improving clinical practices and patient outcomes
  • Evaluates outcomes for quality, effectiveness, efficiency, cost effectiveness, customer satisfaction and ethical considerations
  • Collaborate with providers, CTRC staff and members of the interdisciplinary team to improve patient care
  • Other duties as assigned
  • This position may be responsible for maintaining the security and integrity of critical infrastructure, as defined in Section 113.001(2) of the Texas Business and Commerce Code and therefore may require routine reviews and screening
