Job Summary
• Prepares sterile and non-sterile products in adherence to USP and hospital policies and procedures.
• Under the supervision of the Pharmacist, performs calculations required for the preparation of sterile and non-sterile products.
• Demonstrates working knowledge of preparation of common dose forms including intravenous (IV) infusions, syringes, capsules etc.
• Assists in training of pharmacy staff, in conjunction with the area supervisor or designee.
• Follows USP guidelines for IV room cleaning, maintenance and monitoring.
• Maintains all required training competencies.
• Processes outpatient and inpatient investigational prescriptions utilizing the CTP computerized drug management system.
• Performs inventory management including drug ordering, receipt, expiration date checks, accountability, drug returns, destruction etc.
• Corresponds with study team members and sponsors as needed.
• Aids the Pharmacist in monitor visit scheduling, on-site set-up, triage, and resolution of findings.
• Performs daily monitoring of CTP fridge, freezer, and room temperatures.
• Participates in study closure and document archival.
Qualifications
Education
• High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree? No.
Licenses and Credentials
• Pharmacy Technician [State License] - preferred.
• Pharmacy Technician Certification [CPhT] - Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) preferred.
Experience
• Hospital-related experience, formal training, or certification from a pharmacy technician training program 2-3 years preferred.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
• Shows knowledge of the pharmacology of drugs and legal aspects of dispensing.
• Familiarity with pharmacy practice settings, legal requirements and limitations, prescription information and calculations, drug identification and generic equivalents, drug manufacturing, packaging and labeling information, and proper drug handling and storage practices.
