Position Title: Associate Director of Clinical Skills Lab

School/Division: Hofstra Northwell School of Nursing and Physician Assistant Studies

Full Time/Part Time: Full-Time

Description:
Reporting to the Vice Dean, the Associate Director of the Clinical Skills Lab provides hands-on leadership, operational oversight and direct instructional support within the Clinical Skills lab. The Associate Director ensures a high-quality skills training environment for undergraduate and graduate nursing students, The Physician Assistant program, and other health professional learners. The role supports compliance with accreditation standards, collaborates with course faculty on clinical skills instruction, and enhances student readiness for clinical practice.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Provides day‑to‑day operational leadership in the Clinical Skills Lab, ensuring safe, effective delivery of clinical skills instruction for undergraduate learners.
• Demonstrates evidence‑based teaching and facilitates skills demonstrations, practice sessions, and competency‑based assessment activities.
• Maintains electronic records of student clinical skill competency assessments.
• Ensures student attendance, adherence to lab policies, behavioral expectations, and maintenance of a safe learning environment.
• Supports curriculum delivery through close collaboration with Department Chairs and course faculty to align skills instruction with program learning outcomes.
• Works flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to ensure adequate coverage during scheduled labs and open practice sessions.
• Participates in the development and delivery of standardized lab‑based learning activities that support core competencies for nursing education.
• Assists in developing, revising, and implementing lab‑based curricula and instructional materials to reflect current clinical standards and practices.
• Evaluates student performance and provides timely feedback to faculty and program leadership.
• Maintains lab equipment, supplies, and technology in coordination with academic program needs.
• Works collaboratively with the Director of Simulation and the simulation team.
• Manages the clinical lab associate team.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
• Valid, unencumbered New York State Registered Nurse (RN) license.
• Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree in Nursing or related field preferred.
• Minimum of 4–6 years of related clinical experience, including direct patient care.
• Demonstrates knowledge of clinical skills instruction and competency‑based assessment in nursing or health professions education.
• Strong interpersonal, organizational, and written/verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency in internet use, computer literacy, and Microsoft applications including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Teaching in an academic nursing or health‑profession program.
• Previous work in skills‑lab operations, simulation, or clinical education.
• Experience with accreditation standards relevant to nursing and PA education (e.g., AACN, ACEN, INACSL).
